After I had painted the series of paintings that became "Black Males in Oils," I didn't paint for a while. Then I decided to do a painting of my sister, Darlene, and then my sister, Donna. Avis, our friend and previously a neighbor, who had paid me to do the paintings of Henry and Henry's Dad, asked me to do a painting of her. Although I wasn't planning to do a series of women in oils, that is what evolved. The next few paintings I would do would all be women. I call this series, "Women in Oils."
